Laughing Stock Vineyards 2015 Portfolio
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia
Since its first vintage in 2003, Laughing Stock Portfolio has progressively become more refined, polished and impressive. Winemaker David Enns draws inspiration from Bordeaux, but is dialing into estate vineyards in Osoyoos and Naramata to craft a layered red wine that expresses Okanagan Valley character. The newly released 2015 Portfolio blends Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with small amounts of Malbec and Petit Verdot to great effect. Each variety is kept separate for more than a year before blending — 100 different barrels encompassing 12 dfferent vineyard blocks are considered for the final blend. The wine spent 20 months in French oak barrels with 40 percent new French oak and 60 percent second fill French oak before bottling. The warm vintage conditions has made for an instantly enjoyable expression with tannins, balance and structure to age nicely. Drink now to 2025.
