Tenuta Le Colonne 2015
Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy
Tenuta Le Colonne makes a virtue out of being the closest wine estate to the Tyrrhenian Sea, where it has planted 64 out of a possible 400 hectares. The vineyard is home to a mix of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Vermentino. The 2015 vintage is a blend of 70 percent Cabernet Franc, 20 percent Merlot and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, which underwent spontaneous fermentation in cement vats for approximately 13 days. The finished wine was aged in large format barrels for a year. The result is a juicy, enjoyable red with some youthful tannins and ripe core of fruit that is drinking nicely now and promises to evolve nicely over the next three to six years.
