Dominio del Plata 2016 Susana Balbo Signature Barrel Fermented Torrontés
Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina
This barrel fermented Torrontés made by innovative winemaker Susana Balbo was one of the most memorable wines encountered on a recent tour of Argentina's wine regions. Torrontés is an intensely floral and exotic wine that thrives in the high attitude vineyards, especially around Salta to the north where it typically produces full-bodied and flavourful whites with pungent character. You could say it's uniquely suited to the region as you're unlikely to see varietally labelled Torrontés coming from anywhere else in the world. This is something different. It's smooth, perfumed and beautifully delicate, having more in common with top quality Sauvignon Blancs from the Loire Valley than any Torrontés you may have encountered. The brightness of aroma, the juiciness of the palate and the refreshing character make it heady and memorable.
