Fielding Estate Winery 2018 Sauvignon Blanc

Fielding Estate Winery 2018 Sauvignon Blanc

Niagara Peninsula

$19.95

It's been some time since Fielding has released a Sauvignon Blanc. The last was from the 2014 vintage before Mother Nature’s polar vortex laid waste to buds and vines across Niagara. Many Sauvignon Blanc vineyards were knocked back, if not KO’d completely. A new source of grapes became available in 2018 and winemaker Richie Roberts jumped at the opportunity. The result is this crisp and racy expression and a rich, rewarding Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon that's been barrel fermented and continues to age in barrel before bottling in late summer. The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc comes from an early harvest date (Sept. 12), which yielded an intensely aromatic white that's more focused and French in style than brash and in-your-face New Zealand. There's hard packed acidity here that adds backbone and imparts for refreshing character. A terrific summer white to savour. 500 cases. Recommended. (88/100)
