La Guardiense 2016 Janare Fiano

Sannio, Campania, Italy

$16.95 (528786)

One of the largest co-operative wineries in Italy and the world's largest cultivator of Falanghina vines, La Guardiense boasts 1,000 members, who control more than 1,500 hectares of vineyards around La Guardia, near Benevento. This area is part of Sannio, a sub region in the north of Campania, where hillside vineyards are prized for delivering the best grapes. Drawing its name from witch-like mythical figures celebrated in local legends, Janare is the co-op's premium label. Made from 100 percent Fiano, this charmingly aromatic white offers nicely concentrated flavours and a rich creamy texture that's nicely countered by lemony acidity and an attractive salty minerality and phenolic (bitter) note on the lingering finish. Recommended.
