San Pedro Sideral 2018

San Pedro Sideral 2018

Cachapoal Andes Valley, Chile

$29.95 (632927)

Established in 1865, San Pedro created Altair as a joint venture with France’s Laurent Dassault, who owns Château Dassault and Château La Fleur in St. Émilion. The aim was to create fine wines based on cabernet sauvignon from a 78-acre estate in the Cachapoal Valley. (San Pedro is now sole owner.) This was the first vintage for Winemaker Gabriel Mustakis, who controls Bodega Cachapoal Andes, which makes Altair, Sideral and other wines in the flagship range. The blend is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Syrah, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 3% Carmenère, which results in a rich and concentrated red with appealing fragrance and smooth texture. The full-bodied style offers a core of ripe fruit with some earthy and jammy accents. Drink now to 2028. (90/100)
