Saget La Perrière L’Origine Blanc Fumé de Pouilly 2018

Saget La Perrière L’Origine Blanc Fumé de Pouilly 2018

Pouilly-Fumé, Loire Valley, France

$29.95 (15672)

Produced from 100 percent sauvignon blanc, this stylish white employs the original name of the Pouilly Fumé appellation, “Blanc Fumé de Pouilly,” which was established in 1937, making it one of the oldest in France. Fumé is said to refer to the thin smoke colored layer covering the grapes at the time of harvest. Many also believe it was inspired by the gunflint aromas common to wines from Pouilly sur Loire. Fermented with indigenous yeast and aged on the lees for six months to build richness and texture, this fresh and inviting white offers attractive lime, green apple and floral notes. It’s drinking nicely now and promises to hold for the next three or four years. With 890 acres of vineyards that are certified as High Environmental Value (“Haute Valeur Environnementale” or HVE, a sustainability measure employed by the French government) and six estates spread across the Loire Valley, including operations in Sancerre, Chinon and Vouvray, Saget La Perrière makes an extensive range of wines across the region.
